The RoomHere’s what I’m starting with. It’s not bad by any means, but it’s a pretty simple bedroom. It’s not small, but not large either measuring about 11 feet x 13.5 feet with two windows in the corner. It does get some nice natural light so I’m going to capitalize on that and keep it light and neutral on the walls. I’d like the wall color to be a shade or two lighter, but I’d rather not paint (time, money, energy.) If you’re starting with color on your walls and want to lighten up your space a few designer favorite whites to try are Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, Chantilly Lace, and Simply White. My walls are Sherwin Williams Antique white. It also helps to pick warmer whites when you don’t have a lot of natural light in a small room or it may look too cold and dingy. You can paint your room in a weekend, but check out some of my tips to remember here! Side note: My carpets are Tuftex by Shaw. We upgraded the padding beneath the carpet to a thicker one and it makes all the difference! We get so many compliments about how soft and cushy our carpet is.
The InspirationI always start with looking for inspiration for any design project, and below are a few I gravitated towards. They’re breezy, a little eclectic and beachy, overall neutral with some color sprinkled throughout. I’d like to stay in one of these rooms wouldn’t you?

The Plan and BudgetHere’s a list of everything I’m planning to furnish the room with:
- Bed Frame, Queen Size – I already have a frame I’m going to use, but I’ll also be sourcing and sharing similar styles. Hint: It’s gray and upholstered.
- Night Stands x 2 – I also already have a pair that I brought from a different home, but I’ll be sourcing some budget friendly ones.
- Table Lamps x 2
- Ceiling Light Fixture
- Drapes and hardware for the windows
- Desk or console table
- Desk chair or bench
- Artwork over the bed
- Accessories like pillows, throw, candles etc.
