If you follow me on Instagram then you already know my latest big news which is that I’m expecting! And it’s a girl! It’s an exciting time for my husband and me.
Naturally, I’ll be creating a nursery in my home and what better way to push me to get it done than this fall’s One Room Challenge? I’ll be making over the room we used as a home office and turning it into the nursery. Spoiler alert: it’s not going to be a “traditional” girl’s nursery color palette like pink or white. A big reason for this is because of the natural light in this room, which is not much. There is one window, and it faces North. If I painted it white or a really pale color in hopes of light and airy I’ll just get sad and dingy. Instead, I’m going for a quieter, darker color that’ll hopefully translate into warm, cozy, and serene. I also really wanted to paint the ceiling for all encompassing color.
I started looking for neutral nursery inspiration images. It was actually hard to find what I was looking for! So I started looking at rooms in general with painted ceilings and darker, softer feminine colors. I was gravitating a lot towards taupe, greige, and mauve. I found some great inspiration that have elements of what I want to do.
Love the mauve and gray color palette and painted ceiling in this bedroom.

Alright so I already painted the room during a free weekend we had not knowing yet that I would join the One Room Challenge. But I haven’t touched it since. It’s literally empty. So next week I’ll share all about which paint colors I tested, which one I ultimately chose, and some before and afters!
